SEMET Aviation FlyOut Hub

Even if you can’t join in June, please use the link to let us know what adventure you would like us to organise!

The team are keen to go back to the roots and reasons why they started SEMET, fun flying. Between them there isn’t a corner of aviation that doesn’t fascinate them, getting to work with our fly out team to deliver the best club flying around. We look forward to flying with you.

We’re keen to get FlyOuts right and so please bear with us whilst we organise, adapt and improve our fly out agendas and operation and grow this FlyOut Hub

We are always be open to feedback.

The plan

For the first FlyOuts, this registration acts as first come first serve and we will have a list that we go down should anyone drop out. If you can’t join for the flight or there isn’t enough spaces, please do register your fly out interest as we are using it as a chance to get to know you better and develop a more interesting programme!

Dunkeswell 01/062025

Built in 1942-1943 for the RAF Coastal Command Dunkeswell aerodromee eventually became the USAAF base of command for anti-submarines.

The approach and arrival into Dunkeswell provides some challenges and the route from Blackbushe will also take some thought. There are opportunities to navigate using ground based equipment as well as some monumental VRPs, can you do it without SkyDemon?

A morning Club brief facilitated by one of the team with a breakfast butty followed by group fly out. At Dunkeswell we will take the opportunity to watch the various activities going on, we understand there are some other interesting guests to the airfield that day too. As a group we will then head to the highly rated airfield Cafe for a bite to eat, relax and prepare to fly home.

Once back at Blackbushe we will do drinks and nibbles.

Who’s coming, register your interest

  • Pilots

This is a club wide programme, so if you would like to fly you will likely be paired up with another pilot to share the flying, one there, one back. Please also expect to welcome a student to back seat as it is a totally invaluable opportunity for them to learn.

Some fly outs will be family fly outs too, more on that to come!

The briefed plan is based on about 1.3 hour block in each direction, any back-seating member will be contributing £35 per hour towards each leg.

Please click one of the links to register.

  • Students Back Seat

    Students Back Seat

Please join us, there are a few aircraft going out that have the capacity to allow a back seater. The opportunity to watch a pilot whether experience or inexperienced would be so great towards your own development.

Soon it will be you in the front!

We do ask that you contribute £35 per hour to the cost of the flight.

  • Student with instructor

To any students who would like to join and come with an instructor please register your interest here. We want to have a variety of ability flyouts, some centred on student development and some focussing more on those with licenses, both obviously have a place and you’ll benefit from both.

Please still register your interest and we can have it in the back of our mind for planning. Please also register for the backseat opportunity.

FlyOuts planned

  • Fete de la Musique held annually at Le Touquet is a great chance for some of our members to fly out to France for the night. Using the opportunity to gain their cross channel check participants in the fly out will be pioneers in the SEMET Fly out hub programme with our first overnighter!

Accommodation and transport all managed by SEMET.

Invoice sent a week before the flight. Cancellation due to weather will not be charged!

  • An interesting flight to the north coast of Cornwall. With a tour of the Spaceport on the cards this is one not to miss!

  • Using the opportunity to do a London transit and if we’re lucky enough with the right planning a transit through the London City (LCY/EGLC) overhead.

Useful for a whole host of skill development.

A great day out followed by a club social on return.

  • Mass and Balance, performance and navigation all need to be taken into careful consideration with this beautiful airfield.

After we arrive we will take a leisurely walk down to the town of Salcombe which will take about 60 minutes along the coast path through beautiful National Trust land for a group lunch and time to meander through the town.

  • Glenforsa is a must for any UK based pilot. On the shores of the Isle of Mull with a Norwegian Log Cabin-esque hotel we can’t wait to get up there and share stories over a dram. With a ‘tech-stop’ for fuel en route and some of our team meeting us up there this will truly be an awesome trip, please register your interest as soon as we launch.
